| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Instead of taking sleep medicines or just suffering through the effects of sleep deprivation, now you can use the same therapy astronauts will employ on trips to Mars and beyond. Simply turn on the soothing blue light 1/2 hour before going to sleep, and the precise 460nm light will tell your internal clock it is time for your body to assume its sleep mode. Youll sleep more soundly and wake refreshed.

Bad Idea! October 5, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I strongly agree with the preceding review. All scientific research indicates that this type of light is helpful first thing in the morning, certainly not at night!!! This type of light actually signals the brain to destroy the lingering melatonin which is a hormone that makes you sleepy. Using this light at night to fall asleep would be very counterproductive! Do your own research...
Waste of a first paycheck. July 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Broke after two weeks and I couldn't return it. It didn't really do anything for me at all in the brief period during which it was functioning properly. Total waste of money.
Morning rays for the corporate cog July 4, 2008 Soft and warm pseudo-sunlight to bring sunshine to a cubed work space. Starts the day off on a nice note. I have a pseudo-sunlight floor lamp which is ideal for reading.
Wow -- can this be true? March 15, 2008 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
First don't listen to the reviewer that says you can only use in the morning. While you CAN use in the morning you can also use 2-3 hours before you go to bed.
I have been having trouble with insomnia for months now. So much that I was afraid i was addicted to Ambien since I needed it every night. And it didn't seem to work as well. I then tried Melatonin which worked okay the first night or two and then didn't at all. So back to the Ambien.
I bought this light from Gaiam in desperation for anything that might work. No matter how silly or stupid the claim -- yeah, so having this light on for a little while is going to actually do something.
Well, after using it for 4 nights and getting deep sleep every night I'm a believer. I have it upstairs in my office and just put it on while checking email or surfing the web. 30-60 minutes around 8-9 pm. (not right before you go to bed.)
Last night i fell asleep at 10:30 and woke up at 9 AM. I can't tell you the last time that happened!
I hope it keeps working. I'll keep the sleeping pills for emergencies but i would much rather use this light. In fact I'm buying another one for use in the morning.
Bad instructions January 31, 2008 8 out of 15 found this review helpful
The instruction to use this light at night before going to bed is wrong. Full spectrum, especially blue light, suppresses melatonin production. That is the hormone that rises just before sleep and falls again towards the end of sleep. Exposing yourself to light before bed would shift your circadian rhythms forward such that your body would see your actual clock bedtime as being much earlier in the evening. Thus, you would fall asleep later at night, not at your bedtime. I'm shocked that the instructions say what they do. Use this light in the morning!
