The Lava Lamp originated in Britain just after World War II. It was created as decorative pub lighting. It gained popularity in the 1960's for its psychedelic like random effects. It is now making a comeback. The original model was 52 ounces. This lava-lamp has a 20-ounce sealed tube and is only 14.5" high. It produces countless random effects as gelatinous-like objects form within the tube.
Essentially, a glass container containing two or more fluids (both trade secrets). A metal cap seals the top of the lamp. There is a small amount of air at the very top of the lamp. Loose at the bottom of the lamp is a small coil of wire called the element. A light bulb is at the base of the lamp.
Sometimes called the Astro Lamp. This unique table fixture is regaining popularity as a stylish retro table fixture. Its effects are considered relaxing and soothing. It's often placed in bedrooms as relaxing illumination.
