 I returned it but they wouldn't refund my money! December 29, 2008
The one I got did NOT have ANY brightness adjustment control, although note the description: "adjusts brightness to the equivalent of ordinary 75, 100, or 150 W bulbs."
The light was blindingly bright and because it uses a proprietary pin socket, you cannot replace the bulb with an ordinary lightbulb, and Verilux does not make a lower "wattage" bulb for this lamp.
I was told by the vendor Independent Living Technologies (Garner, NC) that an older model did have an adjustable switch but that the current model does not. They would not refund my money even after I returned it to them.
I note one reviewer says the light is too dim; perhaps they were sent the older model in which the adjustment control does not work properly.
Caveat emptor/buyer beware. Only buy this item if you can get a money back guarantee. It cost me $35 to ship it back.

Purchased a Verilux reading lamp, and the lamp is everything it advertizes to be.
Very much improved reading light when compared to 100 to 150 watt incandescant

My children joke about this lamp after my husband told them that it was "hundreds of dollars." You won't laugh at this though. It is high quality, child proof, knock-over proof (meaning it hasn't broken), and a great reading lamp. This is also recommended to treat seasonal depression for the winter blues in gloomy weather. The only downfall is that you can't count on this to light up a room. There is actually kind of a haze created above the lamp. No problem when sitting under it. I worry more about the floor when the kids knock it over, and this only happens when they "charge like bull." The lamp hasn't broken, had the bulb go out, dented, etc.

I was hesitant to get another floor lamp of this type as a previous purchase of another brand was not bright enough to read with ease or work on needlework. However this lamp is great and throws enough light for reading and craft work without straining your eyes. I also like the three lighting options for brightness. Very easy to assemble and very sturdy. The style is classy enough to use in the living room. Worth the extra price.

This Verilux Heritage Natural Spectrum Delux Floor Lamp is just what we wanted. It's attractive, doesn't take up too much room, and gives very good light especially for reading or sewing. It was shipped to us very promptly. A real success!
