 Don't buy - product not even offered on Hoover website January 2, 2009
I would rate 'No stars' if I could but website forces a rating of at least 1 star. I don't know who some of these people are that write how 'fantastic' this product is. After reading the manual CAREFULLY, three times, water just pours out of the bottom of the machine. Thank goodness I had the machine sitting on ceramic tile - it would have ruined my carpets. No question. I checked on the Hoover website for more information/troubleshooting and was a little upset to discover that Hoover doesn't even sell this model on their own website. But then I figured Hoover pulled the product - because it is that bad.

This is the second Hoover carpet cleaner that I have owned and they have made some great improvements to the newer version. The greater width helps speed the cleaning process and the side brushes pull the lint out of the edges of the carpets. The only negative I continue to have is that the dirty water tank does not balance itself when full and if you are not very carefull it will spill some of the dirty water on the way to the sink for emptying. Other than that I fully recommend this product. Many vendors I visited and spoke with stated that the Bissel machines tended to come back for repairs and adjustments but they seldom saw the Hoovers again.
Hoover Carpet Cleaner Works Very Well December 24, 2008
We purchased this Hoover carpet cleaner from Amazon.com ($159 with free shipping was by far the best price we found), and we received the shipment in 2 days. This machine REALLY works! We used it to clean a large area rug, which we vacuumed thoroughly before cleaning. Even though this area rug had seen little foot traffic over the years, the Hoover extracted a HUGE amount of dirt (visible in the water that it vacuumed up into the holding tank). We used the Hoover immediately thereafter to rinse the rug (water only) a second time, to make sure that any soap residue was removed. Even rinsing with water only, we still extracted more dirt (visible in the holding tank).
We had NO problems using the machine, and it experienced NO clogs whatsoever. It extracted most of the cleaning water from the rug, leaving it just slightly damp feeling. Upon examination, we found that the area rug's backing remained dry after cleaning...no water soaked through at all.
This machine is very user-friendly. The instructions are easily followed. The design of the two separate water tanks (one holds clean water, one holds the vacuumed-up dirty water) is very useful, as it is easy to tell how much clean water you have left, and how full the dirty water holding tank is getting. We believe this design is superior to the Bissell carpet cleaners we examined, which have one tank with a flexible bladder inside. This tank/bladder assembly holds both the clean & dirty water in the same general location, which would make it hard to tell when one is getting full and the other is getting empty.
The only problem we had with the Hoover was an occasional few drops of water escaping from the unit as we wheeled it across the floor, but this was very minor. We HIGHLY recommend this machine. You'll be amazed how well it cleans.

I am so pleased with this thing. I'm on a cloud.
A year and a half ago I bought a house with a big activity room. The carpet was already old and discolored, and I didn't bother to clean it before moving in. My dog then spent a lot of time in that room, and let's just say there were some stains that were pretty disgusting. It got so bad that I was too embarrassed to let visitors go into that room.
I picked this model because of the dual tanks, hand tool, and 6 rotating brushes. (I was worried about it not having a heating unit like the Bissell, but that doesn't seem to matter.) It was easy to put together and start using. My only expectation was to get the carpet 80% clean so imagine my joy when the stains just started disappearing!
Yes, the tanks fill up quickly, but it's super easy to dump, clean, and refill. If the tanks were any bigger, the machine would be too big and heavy, like those crazy rentals at the grocery store. The size of this thing is just right.
Plus, when I realized that this machine cost half as much as my Dyson vacuum cleaner, I kicked myself for not having bought one sooner.
If you have carpets and dogs, you must have one of these.

I bought this cleaner to remove cat urine. I used the pet cleaner. I used it for thirteen hours! This is an excellent product. It is super easy to use, and holds up very well! It is also handy enough to get out and spot clean if needed. I was very impressed.
