Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Plenty of climbers, backpackers and campers think of energy-saving LED headlamps as a safer substitute for tent-bound candle lanterns, but Petzl's Tikka XP shines new light on nocturnal potential beyond your tent and campsite. It features three lighting settings including a boost mode that illuminates up to 55 yards or so depending on the light-reflection properties of the surrounding terrain (wet black rocks always seem to steal some from any manufacturer's claim). While boost mode is an energy-saving option (the three AAA batteries can last up to 120 hours), it's a fairly practical feature when you think about how much time you spend looking at the ground directly in front of your feet while hiking or climbing in the pre-dawn and dusk hours. The power-saving economy mode is ideal for tent reading and sorting pack gear. A wide angle lens, tilt lamp and superb water resistance are standard features. The battery life indicator reminds you when the batteries are at 30% capacity and 10% capacity.

5 out of 5 stars Great Headlamp   October 20, 2008
You usually get what you pay for. This case is no exception. I LOVE this headlamp. It's easy to turn off/on when it's on your head. The tilt adjustment stays where you set it. Very easy to readjust the tilt while it's on your head. Bright enough for having to get around in the dark.

4 out of 5 stars Bright Light   September 20, 2008

Headlamps come in many shapes and forms. The Tikka XP is a bright, light weight headlamp. I like the feature of having a diffuser that slides over the spotlight. If you can find them, purchase the colored diffusers. I replaced the clear one that came with the Tikka XP, with a red diffuser. This is a great feature at night as it allows you to see your surrounding clearly, without significantly impacting your night vision.

Please note: if you intend on using this with a bike, do not use the red diffuser, because the light is limited to about 10 feet.

5 out of 5 stars It Lights my Way   September 6, 2008

This headlamp hangs around a statue of Buddha by my front door, reminding me to don it when I take the garbage out at night down my dark, long, earthen driveway to the road below. Snakes, tarantulas, scorpions and larger creatures are out and about at night, so it is essential to see where one is stepping! This headlamp lights my way. I also like to use it coming home from any venue where the light is dim and I need to get back to my car. Not traditional uses, but really important ones. I think this would make a thoughtful gift.

5 out of 5 stars Most versatile headlamp available   July 30, 2008

There is a reason this headlamp receives accolades: it is the best out there. Comfortable, easy to use, bright, long-lasting battery and versatile. I bought several--my parents keep one in each car now for emergencies.

5 out of 5 stars I'm surprised at the brighness   June 16, 2008

For a headlamp--first that I've owned, it feels solid and bright. Just thought of buying something I need to use once in a while while working on bikes and cars, but it should be useful for just about anything like walking at night. The headband is quite sturdy feeling and solid constructions. No complaints.
