4 out of 5 stars well built headlamp   December 2, 2008

I just received this rugged headlamp and it works as it is supposed. Nothing to complain.
I tried to put it under water tap. It continued working. After half minute, I found water went into the battery box. Just wondering how it is called water-proof. If rain was big enough, the batteries could drain at a very fast rate.
this is just my first headlamp, and continue to find some really waterproof stuff.

5 out of 5 stars Great headlamp   November 25, 2008
This little headlamps is small and extremely bright. I am truly impressed with its ruggedness.

5 out of 5 stars Love this product for running at night   November 23, 2008

I run at night and was looking for something to light up the path in front of me and this does a great job of that. It's high quality and it's comfortable. I wear it over a baseball cap or over just a regular winter cap. The light is bright and adjustable. It also adjusts up or down depending if if you want the light to hit the pavement right in front of you or further out.
I've also used this when doing home repairs.
You won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Petzl Headlamp-I'm very pleased   November 22, 2008

I walk two dogs in the dark and this headlamp has come in very handy for that. I'm porbably going to figure out a way to pad where the lamp sits on my forehead. I like the fact that it has three brightness settings.

4 out of 5 stars Spelunking Your Books: Using the LED headlamp as a reading light   November 16, 2008

Inspired by a fellow visually-impaired photographer on Flickr ([...]), I went to my local outdoors store and bought this LED headlamp, the Tikka Plus, from Petzl. The headlamp is great for reading! I have been using booklights to supplement ambient room lighting for a while now, but have never been satisfied. My eyesight forces me to hold the book quite close, so these booklights are often obstructed by my own forehead. While the headlamp is not perfect, it is a significant advance in convenience and quality.

Personally, I would prefer a more diffuse light and one with more low intensity options. The light is designed to throw a wide beam outdoors or in caves, so the light hitting a page a few inches a way works more like a spotlight. I will experiment with some ways to diffuse the light a bit, possible some opaque paper, bu tI already look geeky enough with it on.

Hopefully, someone will come out with a headlamp designed specifically for the visually impaired, or at least for home honnyists whose need for close up lighting is similar.
