A Powerful Friend November 9, 2008 MagLites have been an industry staple for the last 20 years. In that time there have been few, if any changes. Moving into the 21st century it has become apparent that LED technology will be the new future for flashlights (if not al lights) and Maglite has quickly embraced this change.
Pros-
- 3 Watt LED (2 cell) has as much luminescence as the old three cell incandescent model. While I have yet to drain the batteries in the LED version my guess is that they will last significantly longer. - LED lights give you the ability to focus the beam to a point. Incandescent lights always give you the "Halo" effect due to the light emerging from a wire instead of a single point. - Well built -as you would expect from a MagLite this is one tough animal. We use it on a walk, just in case we need to give something an unforgiving "bop". - I haven't checked, but this unit should be essentially waterproof.
Areas to improve-
- The replacement bulb is incandescent. This may not be as big of a problem as it sounds. LED lights do not "burn" therefore they should last nearly a lifetime.
Final tally, this is a flashlight that you will likely pass on to your children. While you may have to replace the batteries every few years this is as low maintenance item as you will ever buy.
5 stars.
Very good October 2, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I should start off by saying that I don't remember the exact model number of my flashlight. Mine looks exactly like the picture and has a spare bulb in the base and takes 2D cells so I assume it is the same. Note that the white light has a lot of blue content so things will look a bit unnatural. This can be an annoyance when trying to judge if the steak your cooking on an open fire is exactly the right color. But all flashlights are difficult in that way. I think the blue content is the same for all LED flashlights. I have no issues with how far the beam travels. It is brighter at any given distance than any other I have used. But then again I'm no pro. All in all this flashlight has more than lived up to my expectations. It lasts a long time (still have the original batteries in it after 2 months with occasional use and one, one week camping trip). And the thing is built like a tank, if nothing else you can use it as a bludgeon in a tight spot ;)

I ordered 8 of these flashlights, which amazon listed as in stock, way before christmas. This seller was only able to ship one to me before christmas, i had to give a lot of people late christmas gifts because of this. DON'T LIST ITEMS THAT ARE NOT IN STOCK!!!!
Good flashlight December 4, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
What can be said about the Maglite line of flashlights. I've used a number of them in my 24 year career. All have worked perfectly. I'm still using a MagCharger I've had for the past 12 years.
I saw this particular LED flashlight advertised not too long ago and decided to try one out. The Maglite LED is surprisingly bright. The light focuses into a very tight beam if needed. This flashlight is well made and very durable. I would highly recommend it.
I'm concerned with one reviewer's comment related to dropping one of these flashlights causing damage to the LED bulb. I've dropped Maglite's with krypton bulbs numerous times and only had 1 or 2 bulbs break in the process. I hope these LED bulbs are at least as durable. It would appear they may not be. Time will tell.
Works great until you drop it by mistake! June 17, 2007 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
I agree that these flashlights work great for what they are, however, I have already blown 2 LED modules by dropping the flashlights by accident, once myself, and once by my 2 year old. The LEDs pop out of their housing rendering them uselsss. At that point all you can do is pull out the spare filiment bulb provided with the flashlight and use it. The replacement LED's run almost 25 dollars. Not a good deal if you ask me. Buyer beware......
