Excellent combination of features August 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I didn't fully understand the descriptive info before ordering, so here it is in as few words as possible. There are three modes: xenon, two incredibly bright red LED's, or one low output red LED. The xenon is to my knowledge still the brightest technology available in a flashlight, though at the cost of burning through two lithium batteries in 2.5 hours. The two red LED mode is surprisingly bright, stingy on power consumption and certainly adequate to walk a trail in pitch dark while preserving your night vision. The low output red LED seems to be to provide the maximum preservation of night vision, but at a very low level of light output. You would use this to read a map or a compass or to illuminate something six inches or so from the light. Two bonus features not mentioned are a glow-in-the-dark mode switch and a safety loop attached to the end cap. A few years ago a good xenon light of this size cost up to $75 and that was without LED's, so now you can get twice as much for half the price.
Perfect for My Use July 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This flashlight seems to be built very rugged. Got it mostly for times when we go stargazing, all other lights that I had, just were too bright and made it hard to keep your night vision. The one LED setting is dim enough to use to read a map without hurting your night vision. The two LED setting is bright enough to hike around in the woods, and the bright white setting is great for when you really need the extra light. Having the combination of three light settings, and two colors of light, (red and white) all in one easy to carry flashlight at this price is very convenient.
Night com a pilot must have May 5, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
From pre-flight to reading enroute charts at 3 am, this is a very versatile and vital part of night flying. Compact size means it doesn't get in the way when not in use. The only reason for the 4 star vs. 5 is the short battery life when using the zenon bulb. Otherwise, a great product. Built to last, as well.
