 Retractable key chain November 16, 2008
The wire (instead of a chain) was light and strong, and the reel retracted effectively. Unfortunately the spring clip that held the reel to my belt gave up within two weeks. I almost lost my keys when it fell off my belt, so I threw it away. Oh well, another "made in China" product.
Cord broke after one month October 20, 2008

Others have had trouble with the internal mechanism of the device, but my issue is with the metal cord. After using it for about a month to hold my work badge, the cord broke and sent my badge clattering to the floor. Luckily it broke in my office and not while I was walking through the subway. Even the nylon ones last longer than that.

At first I thought this was perfect. It is nice a small, has a sturdy clip and a cable that would never break. However, after a month or so I heard a snap and the cable wouldn't retract. I took it apart and found that the spool that the wire wraps around is plastic, and had snapped in two. This little guy is metal everywhere but where it is actually needed.

I'm not sure how this happened but the retracting mechanism just broke on me and I bought it about a month ago. I wasn't doing anything unusual with it as far as I know.
2 stars because the materials are sturdy unlike those nylon/string ones, but the internals could still use work, obviously.

This product wasn't exactly what I was looking for, I wanted the alligator clip and reel; however, I expected it to be longer. This was my fault though, because it clearly states the 18 inch length on the description. Good quality material, shipped quick, and item as described. Just a little too short. I would recommend if you don't need a long reel line.
