It looks great in my living room. The reading light is very helpful.

I own two already and i'm getting ready to buy a third. It's bright, has the dimmer, heavily weighted so it's steady, and there is a safety switch on the bottom that shuts the lamp off if it's not flat on the floor. It also let's some of the light from the main bulb out the bottom, which provides even more light. However, I do not use the 2nd smaller reading light much.
Just be sure to turn it off when not in use. With a 300 w bulb, these things take a lot of juice and produce a lot of heat. Think of this like a space heater.

We use this lamp almost daily right behind our couch. It's great for reading with the lower lamp. The higher lamp is bright enough to illuminate the whole room. It's a nice set-up and easy to use.
